As shown in FigureĀ  3, the expression patterns of the sequencing and RT-qPCR results of drought-responsive miRNAs were consistent, both indicating that four miRNAs (Ptc-miR159a-c, Ptc-miR472a, Ptc-miR472b, and Ptc-miR473a) were upregulated after drought treatment, and that five miRNAs (Ptc-miR160a-d, Ptc-miR164a-e, Ptc-miR394a/b-5p, Ptc-miR408, and Ptc-miR1444b-c) were downregulated by drought stress [25]. [score:9]
Drought stress might induce the expression of ERD protein by downregulating the expression of miR408 in P. trichocarpa. [score:8]
Their targets include miR408 -targeted plastocyanin-like proteins and miR1444 -targeted all plastid polyphenol oxidases [60, 61]. [score:7]
MiR408 is reportedly downregulated by drought stress in rice [13] and has been experimentally identified to target an early responsive dehydration-related (ERD) protein in P. trichocarpa. [score:5]
Two downregulated miRNAs (Ptc-miR408 and Ptc-miR1444) have been reported to be Cu-responsive miRNAs in P. trichocarpa. [score:4]
The regulatory direction of four miRNAs (miR160, miR472, miR473 and miR408) was identical in P. tomentosa and our research, which might be due to their close genetic relationship. [score:3]

For example, expression of miR156, miR160, miR164, miR166, miR168, miR398, and miR408 increases while miR159 shows reduced expression after UV-B radiation in P. tremula [10]. [score:5]
In P. euphratica, miR156, miR164, and miR408 are differentially expressed under dehydration stress [22], and miR156, miR319, and miR166 respond to drought stress [21]. [score:3]
MiR156, miR159, miR160, miR164, miR168, miR172, and miR408 are significantly expressed in tension- and compression-stressed developing xylem of P. trichocarpa [12], and miR156, miR160, miR164, and miR168 also respond to cold stress in P. trichocarpa [4]. [score:3]
In total, 15 qPCR validation reactions (designed for detecting the expression of miR156, miR159, miR160, miR164, miR166, miR168, miR172, miR319, miR398, miR408, miR1448, and miR1450) for the 41 fungi-response miRNAs tested were carried out. [score:3]
Group II contained miR156, miR160, miR164, miR1448, miR398, miR408, and three members of miR166; expression of these miRNAs was always higher at 5 DAI than that at 3 or 7 DAI. [score:3]
Moreover, plastocyanin-like proteins (target of miR408) were found to be associated with PCD [25], plant defense responses [26], and pathogen infection [27]. [score:3]
C_LG_I1252, miR408) and POD (eugene3.00280149, miR159) were selected to validate gene expression of the poplar stem canker-responsive miRNAs using real-time qPCR. [score:3]
These probes belong to 12 miRNA families (miR156, miR159, miR160, miR164, miR166, miR168, miR172, miR319, miR398, miR408, miR1448, and miR1450) and account for 17.52% of the 234 probes. [score:1]
