Laccases, which are involved in the lignification and thickening of the cell wall during secondary cell growth (Constabel et al., 2000), were found to be down-regulated by miR397, suggesting that miR397 plays a vital role in decreasing the thickness of the cell wall during the transition from a dormant embryo to a germinated embryo by causing laccase mRNA cleavage.
